From the heavy equipment constructing our roads and harvesting our crops to the ships and trains that keep our economy moving each day, heavy machinery truly makes the world go round. ATI’s Heavy Vehicle Technology program offers diesel repair training in a hands-on shop environment where students have the opportunity to work on manual and automatic engines ranging from 400 to 12,000 pounds, developing skills that could lead to a rewarding career as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic.

The Heavy Vehicle Technology diploma program offers diesel training in the practical aspects of engine maintenance and major heavy vehicle subsystems. Students receive classroom and laboratory training using modern test equipment and specialized tools. Students gain hands-on experience in a realistic shop setting where they must demonstrate specific proficiencies. Emphasis is placed on logical diagnostic methods and repair procedures. This program prepares graduates for entry-level employment in the modern heavy vehicle service center in positions such as bus, truck, heavy construction technicians and diesel engine specialists.

  • Students attend class four (4) days per week on various schedules.
  • Program length is approximately 15 months (including breaks and holidays) – all schedules
  • At the successful completion of the program, the student will receive a diploma in Heavy Vehicle Technology.

Liebherr Co-op Partnership

ATI is proud to partner with The Liebherr Group, one of the largest construction machine manufacturers in the world!

Liebherr offers a unique Co-op opportunity for up to 6 of ATI’s Heavy Vehicle students each year. Selected students will work part-time for Liebherr while attending school. In addition to earning competitive pay and valuable experience, students who accept a full-time position with Liebherr after successfully completing the Co-op program and earning their ATI diploma receive a signing bonus worth 50% of ATI’s tuition!


Get Ahead

Get Ahead is a partnership program between Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) and diesel schools including Advanced Technology Institute offering access to industry web based training free of charge.

Program Overview

Freightliner, Western Star, and Detroit Training features free web-based training developed for industry dealer and distributor technicians.

The courses comprise the core requirements of a Systems certification, which is necessary to perform warranty work.
