What is ASE Certification?

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is a non-profit organization founded in 1972, that seeks improvement in the quality of vehicle repair and service by certifying automotive professionals. Their goal is to elevate the quality of vehicle maintenance and repair by setting industry standards for technician competence.

This nationally recognized certification tells customers and employers if a technician has the preparation, knowledge and skills to work on complex vehicles.

To earn ASE certification, professionals must pass one or more standardized exams and meet work experience requirements. The ATI ASE certification program is designed to support students every step of the way. Once students complete ASE-aligned courses, they can email ASE@auto.edu to access tailored exam prep modules. These digital tools help reinforce the skills and knowledge they’ll need for certification success, when ready, students can take a practice test on campus. Those who score 90% or better will have their ASE Certification Exam paid for by ATI, making the path to certification more affordable.
