Is the Trucking Industry a Good Option for You?

Because of the need in the industry, many people are now considering trucking as a great way to make money. While it’s not for everyone, it can be a way for many people to earn a good living.

If you’re contemplating making the move and earning your CDL, ask yourself the following questions before making your decision.

  1. Are you looking for great compensation? As previously stated, becoming a truck driver can be a very lucrative career. The pay is very good, especially for long haul drivers, who often earn more than those with a college degree do. Many companies offer bonuses for long distances, types of loads and maintaining a safe driving record. Most companies offer benefits like medical, dental vision, life insurance and 401K/retirement plans.
  2. Is job security important to you? Because of increased demand, truck drivers have a lot of job security. If you have a safe driving record, you have added security.
  3. Do you want to see the U.S? There’s no question that truck drivers, especially the log-haul, over-the-road drivers get to see a lot of the country. In many cases, drivers get to see parts of the U.S. they may not have seen if they weren’t drivers. The changing scenery and landscape is just another bonus to choosing trucking as a career.
  4. Are you looking for a career you can do as a team? Many people look for jobs they can do with their spouse. Driving with a spouse or colleague enables you to make more money because you can be on the road longer and deliver loads quicker with having two people behind the wheel.
